I remember having a cherry clafoutis in France and being surprised when I learned that there were pits in the cherries. At first I thought that it was because pitting cherries is a pain, but I then I learned that it’s actually because the pits give the dessert an almond flavor, which makes sense since cherries and almonds go so well together.
Like in this smoothie. Well, it has chocolate too. And no pits, because, well, my cherries were frozen and already pitted. And I figured there’s a way to add almond flavor without pits.
In this case, I just added a scoop of almond butter (this is my fave), and it worked nicely. It’s really only a few ingredients, but the result is a creamy, milkshake like smoothie that is healthy and filling. I did not add any extra sweetener to this because I feel like it was sweet enough, but a dollop of honey wouldn’t hurt too much if you want it a bit sweeter.
